About Bug Smash!

The free AR bug hunt that turns your room into a shooting gallery.

Why this exists

Bug Smash! started as a simple question: could a browser game use nothing but your phone's camera and motion sensors to turn the actual room you're sitting in into a game board — no app store, no download, no account?

It turns out it can. Point your phone around and cockroaches are anchored to spots all over your room — on the floor, up the walls, behind you. You physically turn to find them, line up the reticle, and let fly with a crossbow, a pistol, or a slingshot. It's the universal instinct to squash a bug, minus the mess.

It's built and maintained by one person, for fun. That's the whole story.

What we believe

Know your enemy

Cockroaches have been scuttling around for over 300 million years — they pre-date the dinosaurs. There are around 4,600 species, though only a handful ever bother humans. They can flatten themselves to slip through the thinnest gaps and survive a long time without food. In Bug Smash! they're a lot easier to deal with: just aim and fire.
